Nonostante il numero di vendite di Windows 8 non abbia raggiunto livelli soddisfacenti per Microsoft il supporto per Windows 7, il penultimo sistema operativo della redmondiana, non durerà oltre quanto già stabilito.
A darne notizia è stata la stessa Microsoft in occasione del recente meeting di Seattle durante il quale, appunto, l’azienda ha confermato che quello che attualmente va a configurarsi come il sistema operativo più diffuso al mondo non è destinato a seguire le orme dell’oramai storico Windows XP.
Il buon vecchio XP è stato rilasciato il 25 ottobre del 2001, il supporto mainstream è stato interrotto il 14 aprile 2009 mentre il supporto esteso terminerà l’8 aprile del prossimo anno. Il ciclo vitale di Windows XP, pari a circa 12 anni e mezzo, è stato dunque quello più lungo in assoluto.
Considerando che la durata del supporto a Windows XP è stata prolungata in seguito al fallimento di Windows Vista e tenendo conto del fatto che il market share di Windows 8 è risultato ben inferiore alle attese in molti hanno ipotizzato che una situazione analoga a quella del vecchio sistema operativo potesse verificarsi anche con Seven.
Questo però, così come già accennato, non accadrà! Microsoft ha infatti messo ben in chiaro che il supporto mainstream per Windows 7 terminerà il 13 gennaio 2015 mentre il supporto esteso terminerà il 14 gennaio 2020 ovvero circa dieci anno dopo il lancio dell’OS.
Windows 7 avrà quindi una vita più breve rispetto a quella di Windows XP.
Microsoft, infatti, vuole convincere gli utenti ad installare nel più breve tempo possibile Windows 8.1 che verrà lanciato ufficialmente il 17 ottobre ed è del paraere che i consumatori, aziende in primis, decideranno di compiere il grande passo molto prima della scadenza di Windows 7.

Lo decidono gli utenti quale S.O. usare cara Microsoft, e soprattutto lo decidono le aziende con basi installate consistenti che stanno facendo ora il passaggio a Seven. Puoi solo sognare di obbligare le aziende a passare a 8.1 nei prossimi 5 anni.
