Se nelle scorse ore qualcuno poteva avere ancora delle perplessità in merito al fatto che WhatsApp fosse uno tra i servizi di instant messaging più utilizzati al mondo adesso con l’annuncio fatto dallo stesso team dell’app ogni eventuale dubbio a riguardo è stato fugato. Mediante un apposito post sul blog ufficiale WhatsApp ha infatti annunciato di aver raggiunto un traguardo storico: quello dei 500 milioni di utenti attivi.
WhatsApp sottolinea che a differenza di molti altri servizi che sono soliti indicare gli utenti registrati l’importante numero in questione fa riferimento ai soli utenti attivi ovvero coloro che utilizzano realmente l’app.
Il team di WhatsApp ha inoltre reso noto che ogni giorno vengono inviati e ricevuti oltre 60 miliardi di messaggi, 700 milioni di foto e 100 milioni di video e che i paesi in cui è stato registrato il maggiore tasso di crescita sono Brasile, Messico, India e Russia.
WhatsApp, così come sottolineato dallo stesso CEO Jan Koum, è inoltre un’app che risulta molto diffusa non solo tra l’utenza più giovane ma anche tra gli anziani che non hanno mai usato un computer e che solitamente non si servono di internet. Ciò è reso possibile dall’estrema semplicità con cui si effettua la configurazione dell’applicazione. Non sono infatti necessari né nomi utente né difficili password da ricordare ma solo e soltanto il proprio numero di telefono. Inoltre è presente una funzionalità che consente di ingrandire la dimensione del testo per una maggiore leggibilità, una feature questa che risulta tutt’altro che di poco conto per coloro che a causa dell’età si ritrovano a dover fare i conti con qualche problemino di vista.
Considerando poi che Mark Zuckerberg, in seguito all’acquisizione dell’app messa a segno da Facebook a febbraio di quest’anno, aveva dichiarato che l’obiettivo era quello di raggiungere 1 miliardo di utenti nel mondo quello da poco raggiunto rappresenta quindi il 50% del traguardo finale.
Per il raggiungimento del miliardo di utenti l’azienda ha pianificato tutta una serie di nuove strategie commerciali come ad esempio il lancio, in Germania, di SIM cad ad hoc.
