Nel corso delle ultime ore Google ha annunciato un’interessante novità per quanto riguarda Gmail. Mediante la pubblicazione di un apposito post sul suo blog ufficiale della celebre casella di posta elettronica Google ha infatti reso noto di voler sfruttare delle tecnologie di machine learning (le stesse impiegate per le ricerche online e per l’assistente Now) al fine di rendere più efficace la lotta allo spam.
Detta in altri termini in tal modo i sistemi di intelligenza artificiale vengono applicati da Google per tenere traccia dei messaggi pericolosi e quelli non desiderati ben lontani dalle caselle di posta elettronica degli utenti.
L’annuncio rappresenta inoltre un’ottima occasione per difendere alcuni dati riguardanti il volume di spam che finisce nelle caselle di posta elettronica. Stando a quanto dichiarato da Big G ad oggi lo spam è meno dello 0,1% mentre la percentuale di messaggi identificati erroneamente come spam risulta addirittura inferiore allo 0,05%. Si tratta sicuramente di numeri molto bassi ma per il momento non ancora pari allo zero. Per far ciò Google ha dunque deciso di mettere in campo nuove iniziative.
Innanzitutto, cliccando sui pulsanti “Segnala spam” e “Non è spam” associati agli elementi ricevuti si contribuisce a creare collettivamente un profilo dei mittenti, migliorando la qualità del servizio per tutti. Lo stesso approccio verrà inoltre impiegato in futuro per distinguere tra spam e email indesiderate. Qui entrano in gioco le reti neurali artificiali a cui si è fatto riferimento qualche riga fa. Con questi sistemi si potrà anche tenere in considerazione che non tutte le caselle sono uguali.
Inoltre, i filtri antispam integrati in Gmail impareranno a riconoscere in modo efficace se il mittente di un messaggio è effettivamente chi dichiara di essere in modo tale da combattere il più possibile la piaga del phishing. Si segnalano anche i nuovi strumenti di analisi messi a disposizione da Postmaster Tools per l’invio di grandi volumi di messaggi di posta elettronica.
